I woke up this morning and as I left the house I decided to pay close attention to the first five people I made contact with. So I ask, “Good Morning, How are you?” The responses I got were all very similar, exhausted, tired, can’t wait for saturday and more. Then I decide to read in my book today the 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader and the chapter is passion. In the chapter it asks, “Do you wake up feeling enthusiastic about your day?” It also asks the last time you couldn’t sleep because you were too excited about an idea? PASSION. I can say that lately I have woken up with energy excitement and passion but I remember the days I did not. I use to wear a suit and tie to work. I hated it. Now I get to truly help people. It asked us to think about what it was that lit us up as a child. What was that thing that you could do for hours on end and never grow tired? So I did. What I concluded was coaching and playing sports. I recall loving to help others sort through their problems and help them overcome obstacles. That is when I realized that I am doing just that. It does not look exactly the same. I am still working toward that on many levels but I’m doing it and I have someone to share that with now. Someone in addition to my children and that is why it seems so in line.
What is that thing for you? Do you respond to a hello with the following: you have too much energy for me, I’m tired, its nearly Friday, today is gonna suck and more? If so it may be time to take a step back and ask yourself what you are passionate about. If you cannot wait all day to workout, learn about working out, learn about nutrition, sleep, mechanics and more then maybe you would like to be a trainer. Passionate people make things happen. I found the stats alarming but the book suggested more than 50% of CEO’s for Fortune 500 companies had a C-C- average, more than 50% of all millionaire entrepreneurs did not graduate college and nearly 75% of the US Presidents were in the bottom half of their class. Astonishing but believable. They all have Passion.
“When a leader reaches out in passion, he is usually met with an answering passion.
